Actually, the 'launchpad' was high up in Glenmacnass, Ireland. Follow the river from Darren Branagh's parents' house way up into the mountains, where we had to cross a stream, near to where there'd been some tree felling. Needless to say, my wife and Darren set me up for that photo. I think around that time Darren or my wife or both conspired with Jochen to have published in Toady a set of three pictures (including that one) in an "Embarrass The Editor" caption competition. Not long after that Quantum Leap picture was taken, I slipped on some rocks in some peat not far from a sharp drop (3 times in rapid succession IIRC) and both my wife and Darren were laughing too much to even think of being able to help me. Can't remember if it was before or after generous Guinness consumption - either way, it was very, very cold up there, and by that time I was wet through as well as cold. Even the rivers near there were black like Guinness (presumably from all the peat running off). I've since found two more pictures I could have used - Jonathan Hudson wearing a cardigan his wife had knitted for him, plastered in Linux penguins, and Simon Goodwin wearing a jacket with more colours than a Q60! Now if we'd followed John Gilpin's ideas about having a Quantember month (or whatever he'd called it) I could have included those pictures too ;-) More seriously, thanks to Derek Stewart, there's now a PDF file version fo the QaLendar 2007 as well, on the same page.
