Neil two things then to resolve: 1) Try swapping the JS set of ROM chips out of QL A and put them in QL B.
2) The noise is caused by you putting HD disks in an ED drive connected to a Trump Card. The Trump Card is trying to force the disk drive to format them as DD disks, but the disk drive is saying "hang on, these are HD disks". You either need to get a DD disk, or cover up the hole in the disk.
