No, when I looked at this in more detail, I realised it was only the 
CST Q+4 which had buffering - it had a small circuit board which 
fitted in the QL expansion slot and a rather rigid ribbon cable which 
fed the connections to the Q+4 which sat under the QL.

Did you have to make any concessions for signals at all on the Mplane, 
any capacitors or anything to control noise or signal degradation?
