Dear Bill, (off topic)

A few days ago I bought a brand new Packard Bell PC from a local computer
shop. When I switched it on I just realized that it did not boot up. Before
spending hours with the support service I carefully checked that it was
possible to open it without loosing the warranty. I immediately discovered
that the HD power cable was disconnected.

I just think that those new SATA power cable are quite soft and it is
sufficient a bit of shaking to allow the cable to disconnect from the HD

Good old stiff PATA power cable

:-(

Best regards

Davide

Just got the password so will download this afternoon ( chrismas lights a
priority this morning).
Remembered my wifes laptop runs on XP so I could have used it. bigger
downturn was when I realised the most recent backups to my Christmas card
list are on the hard drive of my old computer that I gave to my son which he
managed to make very dead.
Best backup I have is 04 on Floppy, I bought a USB floppy drive early this
year ( this PC and Wifes Laptop have no floppy) - good purchase I think.

Off topic I bought my son a refurbished PC from PCWorld online, quite a ggod
buy but it arrived three days late and would not boot up, turned out they
had left the power lead off the hard drive, unfortunate thing for them is
they sent me a customer survey to fill in a day after I bought it, it won't
make good reading for them (;-)

Merry Christmes and a good new year to you all - Bill
