Arcplus. The company long ceased to sell it, and I suspect they no
longer exist. Google searches show 1994 data as the latest! I haven't a
clue what the copyright position is.

It was a really brilliant update to Archive with a very very long list
of added features and functions. They also wrote a number of very
useful general purpose functions.

I forget now all the improvements over Archive, but they really did make
Archive redundant. The speed was the most obvious. Data integrity as
well is perfect. With Archive I was having to re-build the files
regularly, and this was even *never* using 'insert', but using 'alter'
and re-opening the file. One should never use 'insert' anyway as it
offers no way checking file data etc before moving to the next addition.

Since Arcplus in the early 90s I have had no file problems. The system
is so good, even in its tiny DOS 640 x 480 window (weren't screens low
res then) that I have absolutely no incentive to move to a more modern
program. The *only* downside is printing. It uses DOS, so I still use
my HP Deskjet and Brother dot matrix parallel printers. The Brother was
new in 1986 and is still working flawlessly.

Actually I suspect I would still be using QL archive had it been more
robust and supported large *separate* indexes.
