As he has 50 cartridges and apparently *all* fail to read, it is 
unlikely to be the cartridges.  Some could be faulty but not all methinks.

What complicates it is that none of his three QLs will read them.

He could have faults (maybe different) on all three, but the common 
factor is the power supply.  The motors are driven direct off the DC 
from the supply.

Do the cartridges rattle?  Try holding them in, and they may read.

The roller on the microdrive has a habit of riding up and touching the 
case.  Push it down using thin card as a spacer.

Best bet is to find someone with known working microdrives and ask them 
to test the cartridges.

Oh yes, and use format ram1_mdv1_ (addon with qpac2) to test.  It will 
do a quick copy to ram and mark files not readable.  Saves a *lot* of time.
