Hi everybody,

time to report something positive: the money from QBranch has arrived
today, 21st of October.
I have just called the printer to get the QBranch batch printed
and he thinks I can pick it up tomorrow afternoon/evening.
I will pack them tomorrow evening and ship them on Thursday morning.
This is the fastest I can handle it.
The package should arrive next Monday or Tuesday in the UK, and I'm
sure Roy will put them into envelopes and mail them out to his
subscribers very quickly.

Some notes about "the" Quanta argument:
Here just another example about which you will hopefully read a clarification in the next Quanta magazine, so it's not starting something "new" but something which may give you an idea
(this has nothing to do with Geoff's matters, this is something
completely differen - "easy business"):
if you look at the Quanta website, Traders corner,
you will see that my and QL Today's ad are over
a year out of date.
I have sent updates to Quanta whenever I got invited to do so.
I sent the last update beginning of June 2008 and still, nothing
happened. In September, I complained to Quanta, and got a promise
that it will be changed at highest priority. Now, a month later,
still nothing has happened.

The problem is: when people look at the very outdated ads, they will
probably think that I have no interest or that I am lazy or whatever.
But, all my work on ads was in vain - because Quanta did not update
it. So, was it good I kept quiet or was it wrong? Being nice about
it did not change anything, obviously, but I worried about it every time I thought of it.
And this has happened to printed (and paid by me) Quanta ads as
well in the past. So, keeping quiet about Quanta matters does not really
help either, it seems.

No doubt, without Quanta the QL scene wouldn't be what it is, but
it should be allowed, and is sometimes necessary, to report about things
not going well ... especially if there is no improvement after several
nice, quiet complaints.

And also, Quanta has had a lot of praise in QL Today, even recently!!

There is no need for fight or trouble, but when it is obvious that
people get the blame who don't deserve it (or when it is likely that
somebody else gets the blame as in my example), some kind of explanation
is required.

John Gilpin (who does a great Job at Quanta) has promised a month ago
that the ads will be updated very soon and I still believe this is going
to happen very soon. He also promised a clarification in the next issue
of Quanta, so what I write here as an example can be read in the next
issue of Quanta anyway (I hope). Not everybody is on this newsgroup.

So, the question is: is it right or wrong to keep quiet all the time?
How many website viewers has it cost ME, appearing so uninterested and
out of date to them?

If you feel that something is wrong and you are not interested, you
go away. If you are interested in it, you do something about it.
Some people do it quietly, some more loudly. Both put time and effort
in. Both is better than going away, isn't it?

Is QL Today just an "everything is happy and dancing" magazine? I hope,
not ... and Roy's BOW was also critical in times. How many readers have
we lost because of this? How many readers will we lose because the
magazine is late again?

Not renewing is not the solution to CHANGE something. How many members
has Quanta lost because of many things not being the way the members
or Quanta magazine readers expect it to be?
All this are questions which cannot be answered.

To state it again: to us, QL Today (and I am sure I speak for both
Roy and Geoff), Quanta is NOT an enemy or anything similar.
I am sure that John Gilpin will confirm that our mail conversation
are helpful, friendly and we are always trying to get positive results.
The agreement to place exchanged ads in the magazine dates back many,
many years and was also a friendly act to help generating more readers
and members for the "other camp" ... and even if you think it makes no
sense anymore:
Believe it or not, I got two new subscribers this month! :-)

I expect Roy has now programmed alarms in his mobile phone to remind
him about the next QL Today issues in time, so that the next issues
should reach everybody in time as well, as he promised. :-)

Speaking of the next issue: the fact that some readers (being also
trusty authors) have not received their magazine yet means, that we do
have a lot less material than usual. Please, please, provide us with
material as soon as possible. I need to get started on the next issue in
about 2 or 3 weeks time at the latest to ensure we'll get it out done
and out in time to you!

And remember: QL Today also has a letterbox-section! If you are happy
about something, wish to support something, please write. If you are
unhappy about something, please write too! After all, the idea of the
magazine is to provide something YOU wish to read!

Regards Jochen
