I think it is a little more complicated as english and german prononciation are not the same:

If you mean haha in german and write it so, an english guy will read "hehe"

As I know Tony I think when he writes hehe, we german people would hear "hihi" but if you write "hihi", in english it will sound like heyhey: not really laughing...

So smeylies were invented :) ;-) :-D (c:

But Tony looks always so: (8-)# (with glasses... # is the beard not hear/hat/or so... #c:)=
