When John Gilpin reported battery problems I thought it's about time to check my Super Gold Cards which I have not used since April and I have never changed their batteries. One SGC (+QL) stopped at the F1/F2 prompt, the battery was labelled "92.12" and was completely empty. Another SGC (+Qubide +Aurora) started OK and still had kept the clock on time (94.04!). I followed Derek Stewart's suggestion and ransacked some dead PC mainboards (they don't live as long as my QL's!) for the battery holders and mounted them on a piece of circuit board with 4 legs to fit in the original holes. Its height just stays under the RAM chips so the SGC can still be inserted into the QL housing.

The third SGC (+Qubide +Aurora) did hang at the Qubide prompt. I tested the SGC and Qubide boards with the QL and they both seemed fine. The battery was down to 1,5V and is only capable of keeping the last set time but is not updating during the "off" time. Hanging after the RAM test suggests a ROM problem, in this case piggybacked original JS ROMs. I took them out of the Aurora and cleaned the legs but this did not help. Then I took out all other socketed chips and cleaned them, this brought the Aurora back to life and on time with the CR2032 in place.
