The error appears to be related to the way in which the Quanta server validates email to try to stop SPAM.

Basically, what John received was a challenge from the server, asking him to confirm his email address as valid, by sending an email to:

[email protected]

This type of challenge works well at stopping spammers, but as can be seen by John's experience, it also puts perfectly normal people off!!

Hi, John in Wales,

You have, inadvertently, reached ALL the committee members from QUANTA by sending your query through the ql-users list. This is because ALL the committee subscribe to the list on their QUANTA default addresses (such as [email protected] etc.) I am sorry that you have had problems contact us individually by using our default addresses and I have passed your query on to my son Adam, who handles our site hosting through his employer Continum. He may reply to you direct, or he may pass his findings on to me and I will communicate with you further. It seems that all committee addresses are working correctly today so you might try your email again and see if you get any further faults.

Sorry you have been inconvenienced in this way and thanks for reporting it to us.

Kindest regards,

John Gilpin.
QUANTA Treasurer.

Good day!

Sorry, even this cut and paste abstract below is a bit long, but, if you are
a QUANTA subscriber please read on .....

Below ==== is taken from what I g0t (last week) when I sent a mail to -

'anyone'@quanta etc i.e. Editor, Librarian, Web Admin.

It's all a puzzle to me and, as I don't understand its standing (!), I don't
respond to it. Should I? Suggestions welcome. Thank ou.

Greetings to all,

John in Wales
