My dad was always messing around with old single cylinder petrol engines, trying to make them work. I used to help him. My main task was to hold onto the bare plug lead wire while he cranked the engine over - to see if it was generating power! I remember that lesson very well - I only did it once! It - the lesson - came in very handy when I was a Honda Motorcycle mechanic (and also as a Yamaha Outboard Motor Mechanic - they weren't called engineers back then!) as I knew to avoid the business end of a plug lead! I think today's kids are far too molly-coddled! No spark in them.
