I was mainly mentioning direct SPI because the USBWiz is not exactly cheap.
I just find the use of USB for HMI so versatile I wouldn't spoil it for storage that I can have on SD as well. But this would only make sense if the transfer speed could be increased over the current RS-232 limit. I wouldn't like a dead keyboard or mouse while I save a large file using 9.600kbps or even less. > Just to be clear, I have not implemented a FAT filesystem on the QL. That's what I understood - And I'm sure it was just about enough work without it. Having the possibility to transfer files to and fro a FAT file system, even if not through a QDOS driver, is enough. > > In my opinion trying to mount a FAT filesystem under QDOS is fraught with > problems anyway, not the least of which being ... trying to mount a FAT > filesystem under QDOS!!! The best way around this is to use a QXL.WIN > container on a FAT drive, and I do have plans for a later version of the > driver to do exactly this. Sounds like a plan - USBWiz should come to help here massively because it saves you from doing all the FAT stuff natively. > > However my priority now, as soon as the beta testing is over for the current > driver, is to commence work on a ROM port version of the USBWiz using SPI. I do admit that the ROM port is probably the worst place the QL has to connect additional peripherals technically - but from a handling and end user point of view it is the most appealing (I would expect the circuitry needed for native SPI should easily fit into one of the ROM port dongles we used to have with certain software). And it's most probably good enough for SPI, as I've written before. > Adrian > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tobias Fröschle > Sent: 12 March 2011 17:59 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [Ql-Users] SPI (was Ser-USB on Minerva) > > Am Samstag, den 12.03.2011, 11:00 +0000 schrieb Adrian Ives: > > I agree 100% with everything you say.
