Subject: Re: [Ql-Users] QUORUM

If Quanta is achieving 10 to 15 members representative present, at an AGM, from an overall membership of between 130 to 150. Then it is doing well.

Well said! Quanta has a membership of 172, scattered all over the UK and abroad, and an AGM attendance under 20 is quite usual for an organisation of this size.

For the record the attendances over the past 5 years have been:

2006 15
2007 14
2008 20
2009 22
2010 16

There has been a slight improvement, but still a good reason to explore the possibility of electronic participation.

Without giving away too many secrets the committee have now been sent a concept revised constitution largely drafted by a member who is a solicitor. This provides for the possibility of electronic participation in meetings.

The thinking behind this constitution was to give the present one a good spring clean with some weak spots tidied up, ambiguities removed and updated for modern circumstances. (The present constitution recognises just two QL systems, the black box and the Thor!) Very few "political" decisions have been made. In other words things like whether or not to end the six year rule is a decision for the members. We need a mandate on various matters and that is why feedback is still important. If you can't make it to the AGM the committee still wants your views.

Electronic participation would be new for Quanta and we would have to investigate how feasible it would be. We have never had an internet link at UK shows although other countries have done this. In Italy a few years ago there was a presentation from America via video link. Perhaps we need some help from abroad.

Most committee business is now done electronically. The aim to is have only two face to face meetings a year. One is immediately after the AGM and the other at the beginning of February to plan the business for the AGM. One of the unseen things that Sarah achieved as secretary was to structure the record keeping of email and telephone business,

Best Wishes,

Geoff
