thanks to the long eastern weekend I found the time to tinker again.
Solution was easy:
1. Get a drive which is working and not damaged/dead. ;-)
Always a good idea.
2. Set SCSI ID to 0 (No jumpers inserted).
3. You hear the drive making some noise at system startup.
4. FORMAT it.
5. Up you go.

BTW: There's no information concerning the drive on the Thor startup-screen.
@Bob: Did you ever see such a message on any Thor computer?

I just assumed the Thor would do as the Qubide IF and reports the connected drive models.
I have no experience with Thor hard drives, never seen one in action.
