Ahh so it's not really USB at all, it's PS/2 on a USB connector, which is all that the mice with a 'usb to ps/2' converter are, they can just detect which interface they are on and talk the apropreate protocol.
If this is the case I seem to remember seeing a circuit somewhere for connecting a PS/2 mouse to an Atari/Amiga using one of the smaller PIC microcontrolers.
I would hazzad a guess that someone has taken this and made a few boards up and is selling them on ebay.
