Just to let everyone know that I am beginning to experience the same
problems that George Gwilt has reported.
About 10 days ago I stopped getting all the mailings from this group
including those I have sent myself.
I cannot understand why this is happening, and why some are coming
through and others not. Anyone else with the problem,
Thanks to all the people who replied to this thread. Unfortunately the
problem started just a week before the Quanta AGM when I was pressed for
time and could not investigate. Strangely after writing this email some of
the old stuff started to come through.
The main frustration was the Jan Jones thread in which I was an active
participant. I did not get all the emails and thus sometimes had to guess
parts of the discussion. Most annoying was not getting Bill's email giving
details of the Quanta copyright comments, which to me clarified the matter,
and having to pick it up from Dilwyn's reply.
A worthwhile discussion that has produced a result, although not the end
result we would ideally like.
Are you using Windows Live Mail by any chance?
I went through a period of seeing replies to emails I hadn't read. I found
the original emails in the Junk folder.
I happened to notice some of them were from people who weren't in the
address book of my email program, which works on the sender's name, not
that of the list apparently.
It might be coincidence that the problem stopped when I ensured the people
concerned were in my address book as known contacts.
I do use Windows live mail and this was one of the things I wanted to look
at. However it always warns if it has put something in the Junk folder and
that was not the problem.
There is also the possibility I suppose that the ISP is accidentally
filtering out as spam some of those emails, in which case if they offer
you blacklist and white-list facilities to control the level of filtering
it might help. Comparing notes with someone else on btinternet might help
to judge if it is an ISP issue.
I suspect this is what the problem is, and this is what I suggested to
George Gwilt when he was having problems. It also seems it is intermittent
and that other people have it to some extent. (Gmail may be a problem.)
btinternet uses Yahoo and I don't find it as good as it could be and
inconsistent in what it puts in the spam folder. I check the spam folder
once a day and seem to be lucky in that I get no more than about 4 spams per
day and most come via my hotmail account.
It seems that somewhere along the line there is some filtering going on -
obviously this is necessary to keep this list "clean" - and that probably
would be difficult to track down.
I am glad that I had had several discussions with George about the problem -
hence the title of the thread - and I suggested he tried a different email
account. That seemed to solve the problem. If I continue to have the
problems I could also try that,
Best Wishes,
Geoff
