This is a wise statement in the most part, tis even better to plan on doing that Soon!!

A lot less security holes in IE then is years past, BUT they still find holes big enough to drive trucks thru it. Setting up firefox was/is fairly easy, it also will Import all your IE bookymarks for you.

The ONLY reason I use IE (The last 8 or more years) is to visit the MS updates site. PERIOD!

And For a while the server farm that handled all that for MS was sub-contracted out and the servers ran a form of linux.
