Subject: Re: [Ql-Users] Websites
I maintain a website for two different local non-profits. Unless you make
a concerted effort to make updates every month or so, it is fairly easy
for sites to get stale (I'm guilty of that myself).
Who ever maintains the site needs to set a schedule (similar to a
newsletter) and update the site with something.
If someone knows a fair bit about web programming, I'm sure update could
be sent in via e-mail and automatically posted. But this all takes
knowledge or money to hire someone.
So, it really is just a matter of making the effort. It also helps to
have information to post on the website.
Sorry for the late reaction, but your email went into my spam folder and I
have only just seen it.
Having a schedule is what is necessary. As I understand the matter the whole
purpose of the Content Management System is to allow several people to
update the content and this share the burden of the work. I think there are
a lot of questions to be asked here. Does everyone know what their specific
areas of responsibility are and what their precise remit is?
Quanta produces a magazine every two months and this is a good opportunity
for the committee to look through the entire site to see what needs
updating. (According to the site the most recent Quanta Magazine was
April/May 2011.
I have difficulty in keeping my site up to date, but the "In the Magazines"
on the news page forces me to look at the news section 10 times a year,
Best wishes,
Geoff
