Quite the opposite I imagine. I get about 3 or 4 a week now, so it seems
everyone is trying that little scam.
I listen politely, it's their long distance call after all, and when I
get fed up, I tell them to:
* F*ck off! or
* I'm an IT Professional, and I know what you are up to, so f*ck off! or
* I use Linux, not Windows, so f*ck off!
Although I had one the other day, and I waited for her to tell me I had
a Windows problem online, and I just told her to "go away!".
They always do.
Sometimes it;s best not to be too smart with them though, a friend did
so a while back and before they hung up they told him that they would
call him randomly and frequently at around 03:00 in the morning for
p155ing them about!
I find that while the "wait for my ancient laptop running XP" to start
up (or, a VirtualBox VM actually!) they get very very irritated at the
time it takes to "boot up" - must be expensive calling from abroad.
(Oh, and despite playing silly buggers with them, we didn't manage to get
them to tell us who they were!)
You won't. They closest (for certain values of closest) you will get is
"we are the technical support team for Virgin Media, BT, and a whole
list of other Broad band suppliers, and Microsoft.
Still, it's fun - when I can be bothered.
