It already had Win XP Service Pack 3, so I didn’t expect too long to update. Two hours later it’s still only got as far as update 19 of 127. Is this a record?!?

It may well be, mind you, it does depend on the speed of your broadband - which I'm not sure is very fast, if I remember correctly - plus, the speed of your dongle. I think you get about 80 speeds from a wifi, whereas you get 10/100/1000 from a wired ethernet connection. Later wifi standards get a bit higher.
Recently it's got as high as about 12mb/s on occasion (including today) but still dips drastically at some times of day. 12mb/s is pretty decent around here and it makes a lot of difference compared to how it was a year or two ago. I wasn't moaning about the speed of updating, more the number of updates (127) in one go!

The wireless N USB adaptor I've put on it works well. Unusually for me, it worked first time :o) (Norman's getting worried now!)

Once I've got it all updated and added a bit of memory and a new CD drive (ahem! it had a knock in the car - it no longer plays music cds and struggled with the drivers cd) it'll make a pretty decent QPC2 laptop. Not sure why I consigned it to the attic in the first place really (probably the time I got the netbook), but it's been there a while and still works well, battery included.
