In addition, Geoff, I have *almost* got a working Sudoku generator
giving the options of easy, medium, hard and bloody hell - I even
generate an unsolvable grid with only 4 blank spaces :o)
Here is one of the many websites with potential generators:

BTW: Incorrectly it is mentioned (I think by Geoff) in the latest QLT
that
Sudoku is of Japanese origin.
Sudoku was originally called Number Place and it is an American
invention
dating to 1979 (Together with the ZX80)

well that was just plain smart (Duh, NOT!)

Never Mind
You did have me fooled there for a moment! What had I missed? It was a QL
Today challenge many years ago!
Best wishes,
Geoff

I think it might have been me who set that challenge when I contributed a
Sudoku solving program. Incidentally, I sent in an updated version which
solved some puzzles more quickly. I have since lost that version and only
have the first one! If it is still out there in cloud land somewhere I'd be
grateful if someone could email me a copy ---> ilpine at tesco dot net.
regards,
Ian.
P.S. I'm still off work but recovering well from 6 weeks of radiotherapy - a
procedure which was more painful and debilitating than the surgery!
