Hi Ian,

The BBS now runs on a Q40, as the Aurora/Supergold card with Superhermes and
Qubide was always giving problems.

The Qubide partition kept on unloading and the partition table courrupted
itself at least three times.

So I required a stable platform and the Q40 is it, the hard disk is some
stable and the Syquest drives run better for removable backup storage.

Although I would like a tape streamer, but I am having trouble writting the
device driver for the floppy disk based cable streamer. I was hoping to work
out the FTAPE device driver from Linux, but things are not that easy. There
is not much information on the FLP_CONTROL thing.

The reason why users get their username and password entered automatically,
is because the login screen contains a ACSII 5 or ENQ control codes which
tells QTPI to send the username and password get passed to the BBS system.
This also assumes that the user has setup the username and password in the
QTPI phonebook correctly.

If you are using the PC, then the rubbish terminal in windows does not allow
this. Yet another reason for using a QL or QPC2

Derek
