Do bear in mind that if your program is to used by others, that uQLx
also can have very large screens. It is not just SMSQE/GD2 systems you
need to think of!

You mentioned a 'desktop' - is this project in any way related to the
Jim Hunkins QDT system?

The easy way to do a desktop is probably a primary 'CON' channel which
covers the entire screen, calling up anything you need. BTW, the
window picture you sent looks very good! I wrote some code for a
'program launcher' type of application, but never finished it and it
only had text icons for programs. Basically, the launcher itself was
based on my DEV MANAGER program, with a small database holding details
of programs, filenames, any special needs such as the EXEP options P,
G, F, U etc. for naughty programs like Quill, clock programs, Vision
Mixer and so on. The icons part was simply a list of loose items in a
window with the program names in each one with the colours of
'available' and 'unavailable' items set to be the same as the window
background colour so that unused ones were not too visible. The normal
Quit/Move_resize icons were sprites looking like, err, different loose
items. Cheating and simplistic, but sort of worked. I ran out of time
at the time to
carry one working on it but I'm sure I could dig out some code if you
really wanted to bang your head on the wall with half-written DJ code!
(Second thoughts, that might cause insanity, so offer withdrawn)
