Hi,

Now that the reactions to Marcel's message seem to slow down, I'd like
to give my on point of view.

- Strange attitude of some QL (SMSQ/E) tinkerers, programmers who seem
to be afraid of progress. In French we say "Qui n'avance, recule" (He
who doesn't progress, regresses - or something like that).

If you listen to those opinions, there is only one piece of advice for
Marcel, Jochen, Phoebus:
DON'T extend, update or uograde SMSQ/E
DON'T make the system more appealing by dding new feature
DON'T worry about the slave blocks problems
DON'T touch that 36 characters limit
DON'T make SMSQ/E more appealing and user-friendly for non QL users

BECAUSE if you do, some ex-QL users might come back, you could attract
some new users and 'average' QL USERS might be tempted to go on using
it. And that situation should be avoided by all means, for some out there.

That's what I understand after reading the reactions on Marcel's
message... and it make me feel sad.
I suspect that some want SMSQ/E to be kept as secret, confidential and
unknown to the outside world as possible.
Such a negative attitude towards our system is probably the reason why
so many QLers (+100.000 mid-eighties, a few hundreds left) - and I know
of at least half a dozen of them - put the QL aside and migrated the
Windows or to other systems.

My own advice to Jochen, Marcel, Phoebus,... go for it! And we, QL
USERS, will continue to update, upgrade and buy your software.

Sorry, I could resist not reacting.

Franois Van Emelen (a not very happy QPC2 user tonight)

P.S. Sorry for my poor English.
