It is totally impossible for a standard Qubide equipped SuperGoldCard QL to reach these speeds PERIOD! The only other possibility to reach comparable speeds would be a QubIDE with a fairly large amount of cache memory on board. Please note here that in General and in comparison with standard hard drives, I have found the CF cards to be extremely close to even the speediest hard drives, the potential of which cannot be explored with current QL hardware (including the Qx0s) due to transfer speeds to and fro the i/f.' The overall "feel" of any decent speed compact flash card is that it is a lot faster than the hard drive (mainly because of the almost minimal seek time). Additional benefits do include totally quiet operation and extreme mechanical stability... in other words throw it against the wall... if it's not a Microdrive, chances are nothing's going to happen to it. Since the CF adaptors are my "babies" I have to tell the truth about them... They're fast and furious ;-) but not faster than a RomDisq. e.g. Boot up time using the RomDisq as opposed to boot up time using a 26x 64Mb Compact Flash card: (CF specs stored on sH ram so minimal boot time): Boot file loads the following: SMSQ/E 2.91 QLiberator runtimes IPCMouse QPAC2 Time to boot using a 2 Mb RomDisq (From the F1/F2 prompt till windows set up and everything): 12.8 sec. (Cache_off and SCR2EN) Same thing with a 26x PQI Flash card : 18.3 sec With a WDC36400 (2 Mb Cache on board): 22.6 sec I think that this says it all... I will provide the list with more "scientific" results once I perform them (soon I hope :-) Phoebus
