Wlenerz had just told me that there were only *two* confirmed SMSQ/E
"developers" (modestly forgetting himself), namely you and (wait for it) -
me! (And I signed up mainly to help with the coffies and put the jelly beans
on the pizzas ;)
Of course there are other activities than kernel hacking that go towards
making the QL a better system and help to keep it up to date, but I do get
worried when people on this list talk about improving Qlay and Qlem and this
and that when theres so much to be done and so few to do it. QL developers
should be looking towards QL *users* and be thinking about how to move ahead
with this. They should be focused, and avoid distracting projects. The last
thing the retro-enthusiasts want is development. Let them have their way!
What QL users want is development. Weve moaned on this list for years about
all that is wrong or lacking. Nows our chance. I know of a whole bunch of
more-or-less active programmers and tinkerers who have more right to be
called developers than me. They should sign up, if for nothing else than to
show support and give themselves and users a sense that they are justified
in maintining their confidence in the world's last real computer system ;)
Anyone who is part of the project is less likely to rebel and split out of
pique that things arent going their way.
Currently were working on upgrading all the SBasic keywords in
SMSQ/E v 3.01, eg:
100 DEFine PROCedure Test(text$)
110 IF text$ = "": PER_SAYS_GOTO 200
120 WL_IS_THE_GREATEST_PRINT text$
130 MARCEL_REWROTE_THIS_BEEP 2, 2
140 ....
If you dont like it, better sign up!
