Hi Rich, when I said it was 'sad' I wasn't implying that no-one could be bothered to reply - I've had a couple of private replies - just that I a 'saddo' who replies to his own emails, if you know what I'm rambling on about :o)
I haven't used the channels thing much myself, but I need to because I'm tracing the decodes of MOVEM and the regsiter list routine, which I just knew was going to give me grief, is not working very well. I was trying to trace to a file using JMON - to no avail due to the file being 'in use' after closing it in JMON or exiting JMON. I have discovered that QMON is ok with this - so I'm usinng QMON, but I prefer to use JMON and get it moved out of the way on the screen. I aslo found that using the channels thing I can force close the file, and then I can read it. I found the macro features for the first time ever, and set one up to do a register dump to the trace file every time an instruction was traced - very slow, but very useful. I now have a file to work with and hopefully, I'll get this damned thing debugged in time to finish the article. I've never debugged through an EXTOP, so I haven't come across that problem yet - time will tell. I'll add it to the list of things to avoid. I must admit that I have not tried using the various channel commands in QMON, but agree that some work is needed to update it. One of the most bothersome problems has to be the fact that attempting to trace throw an IOW.XTOP call actually crashes the machine (even with LS set). This is particularly annoying in view of the need to write new graphics commands!! This email is intended only for the use of the addressees named above and may be confidential or legally privileged.
