The cheque was for 48 pounds sterling - and nearly half of this would have
gone on charges if I had cashed it.

Is this correct? How on earth are eurocheques therefore usable at all,
unless dealing in huge amounts? Am I doing something wrong?
As Jochen and I found out Eurocheques are completely useless. Not that it surprises me. I cannot recall who said it but the quote goes.

'Who is the bigger criminal ? A man who robs a bank or one who starts one?'

We gave up on Eurocheques a long time ago and I thought they had been phased out. When that happened I opened a Euro banking account. I duly got a cheque book but was told I could not pay anyone outside the UK with it because it would be a foreign cheque and would have to be 'negotiated' (i.e. put in an envelope and sent to a different bank in another country to be cashed) Banks have always ripped people off and have always got away with it. All this Euro nonsense is just that. OK if you can carry enough Euros around in your pocket for your holiday but try using a credit card or getting cash from a hole in the wall (or should that be a**hole in a wall).

Answer to the last question. Yes you are doing something wrong. You are working in a bank and therefore support a corrupt organisation.

That last statement was copyright the International Anarchist Organisation a contradiction in terms -which is exactly what an anarchist should be in)
