Thanks to all for the comments on the Eurocheques - it was actually a
german customer buying some CF adapters!!

We have solved it - he is paying by money transfer direct into my bank
account using my international bank account number (didn't know there was
such a thing, but there you go!! Just shows what a call to the bank branch
can bring) this apparently is completely charge free as it is all
electronic.
