HI Tarquin and all,
I have long had the idea of combining shows - I am thinking on an even
bigger level than this - something like the micro mart retro stand at the
Birmingham NEC last year which Alex Wells and the Q60 boys attended. It was
great, and I spent the entire day walking around going "ohhh... remember
those?"
It was FULL of retro computers - Orics, Amigas, BBC's, Commodores, Apples,
Acorns, and Sinclairs.
And it was in a nice venue, and thousands attended, abeit most for the PC
trading stands, but then even these started on the older machines and
wandered into the retro section.
Whats wrong with all the "old computer" users banding together and holding
one massive show per year for the benefit of ALL our machines? Surely it
would do us all some good?
Maybe someone with the time (unfortunately not me) can contact the movers
and shakers in all the other retro worlds - commodore users, oric users,
atari users, etc. and get something planned for next year?
I would certainly go out of my way to attend it.

Please respond

Dear Quanta and QL Traders
I have just run the first Norwich Spectrum and SAM Show (ORSAM 2003.
Originally it was planned to include a Quanta Workshop, but I was talked
out of it. At the show, as part of a 'QL2000 Way Forward' style discussion,
it was decided that QL should be included come next time. It was suggested
that if QLers only want to do it themselves then maybe the two shows
could run in parallel i.e.two shows in the same hall or a spectrum
village inside a QL show. One visitor said he would bring a Thor next
time whatever I said, while another said the last QL show he had been
to was a flop and the end of the road. Some questioned why QL would
not mix with other Sinclair users. Traders at ORSAM sell things that
maybe of interest to QL users, while QL Traders will benefit from the
bigger market. Costs of the show (a 3 figure sum) would be halved,
there is no danger of the QL being overwhelmed by other platforms, more
the reverse if anything. One thing of note is that there was not a
single Windows or Mac computer at ORSAM 2003. Surely its better to
have one successful show than two that fail and have to be stopped.
I need to have feed back from you as to what your thoughts are now
about sharing a show with other Sinclair users. Is it reasonable for
me to suggest a joint show on Saturday November 6th, 2004?
