Well, this is not true, it can run in a window even in 256 colours mode. But only when using the QL colour (4 colours) mode, GD2 65536 colour mode of course doesn't work under a 256 colours desktop (which is also true for Aurora colour mode, usually applications only have 240 colours for themselves in a 256 colour mode).
