Hi all, 2 month with no update! Bad, bad, bad. Ok here we go, a new release. What's sizzling new?
The new feature everyone is waiting for has not been implemented by me. The guy's name is Thomas Oberthanner and he did it: Custom URLs for OSM tile servers. You simply right click on the ---OSM--- entry and choose information/configuration. The rest is self explanatory. Do I hear that little scream: "YEAH! Finally!"? And, well, I did a bit of work, too. Let's see what has been on the stack. A few bugfixes, bah nothing. A few nifty little changes, you hardly will notice. Ah, map selection. Let's talk about map selection. We all know about Garmin Custom Maps. Well we know about JNX files (http://whiter.brinkster.net/en/JNX.html), too, but let's focus on Custom Maps. These are up to 100 jpeg tiles of size 1024x1024 stuffed into a completely brain dead zip container with some stupid XML mumbo jambo. The thing is called KMZ. So far every tile was packed into it's own KMZ. Luckily Garmin had some mercy and supports KMZs with several tiles. But still Custom Maps suck, because the limitations of that format suck. There are no levels and the 100 tile limit is very scarce. The new stuff in QLGT tries to address the later problem. Now you can select a large area of more than 100 tiles and select/deselect tiles to reach the limit. The final export will be a single KMZ with all tiles. And as selecting/deselecting tiles is a stupid and hideous work I decided to enhance the QLB format to store the selection into QLB files. And if you do QLB files the next step is to add it to the geo database. By that you can save the map selection of your last trip for future use. Imho that makes the best out of the pittance we receive from Garmin.
