Dear Kev:

I CC my answer to you to the QLandkarte GT Users list; as you noted, this may
be of general interest... This would also be the place to ask your questions,
request new features, send patches, etc. etc.

Well, I am a Mac owner (as well as linux). I have an Intel Macbook (first
generation) with the intel tiger version.

Rather old, these days... I still use it on my PowerMac.

I installed the mac helpers (they don't tell if they are for intel or ppc) and
tryed both Intel version (althought it is for Leopard).

Ummm, unfortunately I didn't (a) include the platform type in the image name
and (b) omitted the test to let the Mac installer check if you're using the
right package. Lazy me! I have a new package more or less ready (including
gdal 1.8.0, with wms support, and some other), which fixes both issues,
hopefully on sf later this week. Sorry!

It installed but didn't run.

Hmmm...

So I installed the PPC version in order to emulate it or something. The result
was the same.

No, the PPC package will not work on Intel, and vice versa. In *principle* it is possible to build
"universal" (or "fat") binaries, but this is a real PITA with community libs as
they don't know this concept usually check before the build for the processor byte order...

I also tryed old versions and none of them worked.
Wich version should I install for muy intel Tiger?
Wich helpers sould I install? And How do I uninstall the ones I have?

Please install the latest Helpers and QLandkarte GT packages, both for Intel.
There is no need to uninstall; the installer will just overwrite old packages.

I built the Intel version on 10.5 (my wife's MacBook). Maybe some dependency
was not met for 10.4. It would be *really* helpful for me if you could run a
few tests for me:

Please open a terminal, on ton the command line prompt say

file /usr/local/bin/gdal_translate

which checks the type of a file from the Helpers package. If it says "Mach-O
executable ppc", you still have the wrong helpers installed. In the next step,
please run QLandkarte GT from the terminal:

/Applications/QLandkarte\ GT.app/Contents/MacOS/QLandkarte\ GT -debug

(note the backslashes...). Probably, the application will fail after printing
some messages. Please copy the terminal output and send it to me.

Thanks in advance,
Albrecht.
