I've found alternative URL for the same service, see: http://columbo.nrlssc.navy.mil/ogcwms/servlet/WMSServlet?REQUEST=ServiceLinks This seems to work more closely to a standard WMS , but when it comes to downloading tiles, every request ends up in a HTTP error 500 from the server. The only way I see to see if that service is useable by GDAL+QLGT is doing some traffic capture (ethereal+winpcap for Windows) when CommpeGPS is running and downloading, to see the URL used to get the tiles. It's beyond my understanding why a service offered as WMS 1.1.1 compatible, doesn't seem to work that way.
