In 3-d view, waypoints are painted vertically on the screen. That seems to be nice, but only if you keep far off them. It uses up a lot of computing power to scale these icons in 3-d space as well.
Most waypoints are of no use when seen far-off, some are. I think that a projection onto the map-layer bitmap would suffice for most icons, which could speed up 3-d view substantially. Sometimes, I try to guess which mountain I could see on a photo. QLandkarte is a good help to do so.
