Hi Patrik,

Well extensions are what they are: undefined data structures. GPX and
XML might make you think that all this is kind of standardized. In fact
it's a bloated mess.

The actual patch for tracks simply tries to interpret track extensions
as floats and catches the exceptions if it fails. It's unable to save
the track with extensions.

I do not know how to handle unknown extension fields for waypoints. The
only idea I have is to display a list of tags and values. But as far as
am concerned I do not see the importance to spend work on it. Thus if
you like to have it you have to send a patch.

It works as designed. The export avoids extensions as much as possible,
as unknown extensions upset some devices. If extensions ever get written
they have to be written when using "Save Geo data".

IMHO GPX is a bug by design. And as long as GPX does not actively define
data concepts it will stay the messy pity that it is. It's not a concept
to claim to be the standard but to wait for GPS vendors to establish
their special solution with extensions. If I want to be standard I have
to create solutions and concepts.

Thus if you think you have a nice concept for extensions you are welcome
to send a patch.

Oliver
