If I understand you right, this is not really a QLandkarteGT question, as QLGT is not involved in the process. You take tile files (6*.img) which you got from somewhere, openmtb,map.org I suppose, and you want to create a gmapsupp.img with mkgmap. That should normally work and there are lots of pages on the internet where is explained how to proceed, in particular for openmtb maps: http://openmtbmap.org/de/tutorials/send-maps-to-your-gps/mkgmap/ One reason for the map not showing up in the map list are problems with naming, file location and file transfer. For example, if you have a Etrex HCx, you must either use a software which uses the specific garmin transfer protocol, such as QLGT, sendmap or Basecamp, or put the device in USB mode and copy the map to the folder Garmin on the memory card. If you use the copy method and as the transfer is rather slow, it is important to release the USB device and to wait until your operating system says something like "device can now be removed". Another thing to try is to add the family-id option to mkgmap. Or use gmt (=gmaptool) instead of mkgmap.
