Hi Seb,

do a right click in the 3D view and check if 3D is enabled. If the 
landscape is too flat press the shift key and use the mouse wheel to 
adjust the profile to what ever pleases you.

There is a "help 3D" button in the statusbar. That will explain more of 
the features.
