I think I still do not understand the problem. How did you get the files as qlb format in the first place? And why is it not possible to load and export them to QLGT befor you start the trip? And if you use GPX_Editor on your trip, why can't you use QLGT, too? Simply copy the complete QLGT directory on a USB stick including maps and stuff. Create a link that calls "qlandkartegt.exe -c myconfig.ini" and all your settings are stored on the stick.
But if you insinst to create your own conversion tool, have a look into the QT documentation "Serializing Qt Data Types" and a look into CTrack.cpp. The << and >> operator use QT serialization to write/read the data into a qlb file.

But, I have hundreds of tracks (trails of Piedmont), and not all were saved as .GPX, sometimes you can not work on a problem until I get home.
