good question. I could think of a couple of reasons.
1) Your desktop theme does not like icons. Some themes try to be as pure as
possible by removing icons.
However if that is the case no other application has icons either.
2) Qt has a problem with the current theme. As default Qt takes over the theme
of the system. But you
can change that with qtconfig and enforce one of the themes Qt provides.
3) The Qt library is broken or missing some plugins. All icons are PNG. If the
plugin for PNG is missing none
is shown. I never had this on Linux system, but on Windows systems.
