I really have to admit I am tired of supporting every bullshit Garmin has
'invented' over the years. Supporting
file collections did not do me any good. On the contrary. I can't count any
more how often I had to explain
about tdb, basemaps and why it's not just one file. Over the years more and
more users bugged me why I
do not support the very file that is used by the device, too.

"One file a map" - I started to like that idea. And I never had the urge to
switch typ files a lot. Usually there
is only one that gives a good visibility on the device. And that is the one I
use on the PC, too.

Same for zoom levels. Those Garmin devices behave all the same. Thus it is
possible to create maps with a
well tempered detail levels. Whereas the old maps where limited to 3 levels, to
stay below memory
requirements of the old devices, today's maps can have much more levels. And if
a map author does not
fine tune the map to have a good visibility on a medium detail level on the
device, it's not the the
applications author's task to work around that.

If anyone thinks that an excellently well tempered map like the Freizeitkarte,
is not displayed well enough in
QMS, you are welcome to fine tune

quint8 CMapIMG::scale2bits(const QPointF& scale)

and to post it for further discussion.

The one thing I will do is to clean up the map settings dialog. Currently it is
one widget used for all map
types, displaying only the part that is applicable to that map. This is crappy
implementation and has to be
done better. After that it is easier to add other options. -> Add details level
option and typ file selection to
the issue tracker to be picked up by someone interested in implementing it.
