Hi Alex, yes, polar regions are always a bit of a hassle. The grid algorithm assumes a kind of Cartesian coordinate setup. This makes it easier to handle, but will fail miserably in the polar regions.
As I hardly have any interest in those regions I never spent work into solving that. And as it's open source I think it is up to those with interest in these regions to fix it. If you or anyone else is interested I recommend to fix it for QMapShack, as this is in the scope of future development.
