Sure it's possible. QMS uses the very same mechanism to store it's
configuration as QLGT. But maybe the path is a bit peculiar on the first
spot. The location of the configuration is determined by the following
Qt API calls:

    QCoreApplication::setApplicationName("QMapShack");
    QCoreApplication::setOrganizationName("QLandkarte");
    QCoreApplication::setOrganizationDomain("qlandkarte.org");

This will result into:

~/.config/QLandkarte/QMapShack.conf


I guess you expected it to be:

~/.config/QMapShack/QMapShack.conf

qlandkarte.org is the domain I registered for the complete map software
stuff and I won't register one for QMapShack. So in the second tough
it's logical to have QLandkarte as organization name. And that
determines the sub-folder in the .config directory.
