Hi Oliver, thanks, I should really read the documentation more often. ;-) I wrapped srtm_germany_dtm.tif  and it works fine. After I realized what to do with the little whatever right from the name. After running gdalbuildvrt DEM_DE.vrt ~/GPS_Karten/DEM_Daten/srtm_germany_dtm.tif I got one file in the DEM_Daten-Folder, but QMS shows two identical entries: DEM DE  (underscore got lost anywere) And I don't see any difference in function.
