It's possible to share any external SCSI array in hardware. Just connect
two machines to an external drive array for example. The problem is
there are very few filesystems available that support shared storage.
One is GFS, see http://www.sistina.com/Pages/publications.html.

There are some commercial offerings for big commercial *nix, but GFS is
the only open filesystem I am aware of. Available only for Linux.
