We've had the same problem. We traced with ethereal and found out this: The bounce message appeared every time we tried to connect to an email partner with TLS support on (not only qmail, exim and others too). The emails were just delivered, but every time a bounce message with an empty failure message was sent back.
After we have deactivated completely the TLS support at the sender, we don't have any problems any more. We don't search further more to the error. I think, it may be an error in our TLS configuration. Unfortunately we have destroyed the ethereal protocols. Oskar, I hope this helps to you and the developer of qmail-ldap.
