You seem to have too little memory and processor.
But what you could do is to optimizer ldap.
It means that right attributes are indexed... ldap create huge load acctually.
another thing is to set ldap processes to -5 : renice -5 `pidof slapd`
about ldap conf look http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin22/guide.html p. 5.2.5.6

Hi all, I've put my qmail-ldap in a production
environment but it seem it's consuming all the RAM.

The server have 256 MB of RAM and run on a Celeron at
1.7 GHz.

The software:

openldap (383 users) + qmail-ldap + qmail-scanner +
clamav + spamassassin. RedHat Enterprise 3 AS.

Can someone tell me which are de System Requirements
for that configuration?
