Don`t put all your eggs in one basket.
Mail servers consume a vast of I/O process.
I recommend that put your qmail queue in a separate system storage
using another SCSI card or a IDE disks (in SW RAID 1).
Kernel 2.6 has some performace problems with some SCSI/RAID cards,
verify if your HW is 100% compatible with kernel 2.6.
