Hi

We've just had a network outage (our ISP's Internet connection went down
for a while) which has caused our SMTP service to stop working *even for
local users* due to the RETURNMXCHECK option being unable to resolve.
Here's an example SMTP session:

220 renr.es ESMTP
mail from:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
421 DNS temporary failure at return MX check, try again later (#4.3.0)
Connection closed by foreign host.

So, even though we had connectivity with the mail server, we couldn't
send _any_ mail, even to other users on the same server, because all
SMTP sessions were closed due to the server being unable to resolve the
return MX check. Funny thing is, the mail server uses a DNS server which
is on the same net and at the time was able to (at least) resolve our
own domains, like was the case with the example above.

Does qmail do all DNS queries by itself, ignoring the system's
configuration (resolv.conf)? Is this the desired behaviour?

We're running qmail-ldap 20040701.

Thanks in advance.
