I don't know if this is helpful, but I was using qscanq, but later found simscan (www.inter7.com) to be a better program. More complete, actively developed, and those folks at inter7.com have put together some nice software for qmail, such as courier-imap, so it seems like they know what they are doing. I found it much easier to get working than qscanq.

Subject: qscanq

I dont know how many people on this list use qscanq with the QMAILQUEUE patch,
but I was wondering if anyone has used it with reformmime instead or ripmime as
suggested in the documentation.

I have noticed a huge improvememnt in performance since switching and was
wondering if anyone else has noticed the same? I can only assume that ripmime
is trying to do too much...

Just for completeness: I use clamav with the scanMail option disabled
